The Department of English Language and Culture at the Faculty of Education, UKF in Nitra, transformed into a storytelling wonderland this November. As part of their coursework in Didactics of Children’s and Youth Literature, Master’s students created “Literary Islands” designed to bring books to life for young readers.
Young visitors from Škultéty Elementary School’s fifth and sixth grades, along with students from the Rodinná škola in Nitra, enjoyed literary adventures through carefully crafted activities. The interactive stations transported them to fantastical worlds, from jungles teeming with friendly creatures to distant magical lands where love, friendship, and understanding reign supreme. Beyond traditional reading, children engaged in creative workshops.
The Literary Islands were positioned throughout the faculty building. From student classrooms to the gallery spaces and culminating in the UKF University Library, each location offered a pleasant reading experience.
The initiative proved mutually beneficial for all involved. The participating elementary schools provided invaluable cooperation, while the Master’s students gained practical teaching experience that will shape their future careers. Each pedagogical activity was carefully analyzed and discussed in subsequent classes, fostering professional development through real-world application.
As November’s literary journey comes to a close, the department eagerly anticipates welcoming new stories and young readers next year.
